NASHVILLE, TN – (November 2, 2012) – Country music’s breakthrough artist, Hunter Hayes, brought home the 2012 CMA Award for New Artist of the Year at last night’s CMA Awards, marking his first ever CMA Awards win. Along with the exciting first win, Hunter also performed his No. 1 Platinum hit single “Wanted” to fans and supporters.
Hunter Hayes, the multi-talented writer, musician, producer, and performer, is the only country artist to play every instrument, write/co-write every song, and co-produce his critically acclaimed self-titled debut album. The Louisiana native has also shared the stage with Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley, and Hank Williams, Jr. This multi-instrumentalist continues to garner praise from fans and critics alike as he made his world-premiere national television debut on CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman and also performed with The Roots on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning America, and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. His latest hit "Wanted" is certified Platinum and spent two weeks at No. 1. “Wanted” also held the unprecedented #1 slot for three weeks in a row on GAC's Top 20 Countdown.
Hunter took a moment today to talk about winning New Artist of the Year at The 46th Annual CMA Awards.
"I can't believe this is happening to me. I already feel so blessed to get to make music with the awesome team I have and to go out on the road and play to awesome fans every night. This is such an honor and it means the world to me. I am beyond grateful for this award and I will never forget everyone who has done so much to make this possible," said Hunter.

Hunter has partnered with American Songwriter and Martin Guitar to help judge the 2012 Pub Deal contest. "The Pub Deal" will give one lucky songwriter a year-long $20,000 publishing contract!
When asked about being named a judge, Hunter said "“I signed my publishing deal with UMPG almost two years before signing with Atlantic Records. I believe it was the first major turning point in my career, giving me access to people like Cyndi Forman who could work with me on a daily basis to nurture my songwriting chops and set up co-writes with some of the best writers in the world. It’s an honor to play even a small part in helping someone find this kind of opportunity.”

When asked about his reaction to being nominated for New Artist of the Year Hunter responded, “It's such an honor to have the industry sort of recognize you in that way... You know, to put your name on that list. It's a really good list. I'm kind of scared... but it's awesome. It's a rare opportunity. It means a whole lot to me."
On the “Blown Away Tour,” Hunter admits he doesn’t get to spend much time with Underwood as they have conflicting schedules. However, Hunter disclosed, “I am waiting till…the end of the tour to have the sit-down” and ask Underwood for advice.
Hunter also explained “it’s my first time orchestrating a show of this type [and] this time sensitive…which is actually kind of fun.” When discussing his recent accomplishments, such as being a guest on the “Blown Away Tour,” Hunter replied, “I’m blessed to be surrounded by people who support me that way.
