Hunter discusses his uphill battle making his first album in a new article featured on Huffington Post. In the article Hunter talks about going against the current trends in country music to find his sound, saying "This year I got into two or three different bands because their records, which were not on country radio stations, had elements of the things I love," Hayes said. "They had bluegrass instruments. They had really cool organic grooves that I love and was so excited to hear. ... It's important for me to sort of merge all these sounds into one to help me create mine, whatever that is."

The Academy of Country Music and Great American Country (GAC) announced today the newcomer categories for New Artist of the Year Award, nominating Hunter as New Male Vocalist of the Year!
For the fifth consecutive year, the New Artist of the Year award will be opened up to interactive fan voting through VoteACM.com beginning Monday, January 21, 2013. The top three (3) artists from the first round of ACM professional voting are considered nominees in each of the three categories, and will compete via the Great American Country (GAC) fan vote at GACtv.com, combined with the ACM professional membership vote, to determine the winners for those Awards. Winners in each of the three categories will automatically become nominees for the overall New Artist of the Year award; which will also be determined by a combined fan and professional membership vote.
